Spring Snow in Leitrim
Tuesday morning it was snowing as we headed off to Ballinamore for the second Day of our wind turbine bulding workshop.

It was blowing a strong gale from the NE with rain and sleet in town and as we headed home the hills were white but the road was clear until we got around 2 miles from home and the higher we got the more snow we met. The VW is a syncro 4 wheel drive and is not bad in the slippy conditions but then 1 mile from home we got stuck in around 4″ of snow just a couple of hundred yards from our neighbours house. He tried to pull us back down the hill with his jeep but gravity decided we should stay the night in the drain.

We walked up the hill head on into a blizzard and through drifts that were up to our knees then put on some dry clothes and waterproofs and headed back down to the van with our big Tirfor and some rope in a fish box.

We wanted to get the van out in the morning so as we could travel the 5 miles to town as we had another few days of teaching to do on the workshop.

We got the Tirfor down to the van and were home just after dark and then back down again at 7am to pull the syncro out.
With our neighbours help and a telephone pole as an anchor we managed to get unstuck and were in the workshop by 9.30am. The van was well bogged down and without the 5 ton Tirfor we would not have got out.

We stayed that night in Ballinamore with our friend Liz and on Thursday we almost made it, just had to walk the last quarter mile and then on Friday with a little shoveling we got the syncro home at last. I wonder is that the end of the spring snow?
